SCAA Fair Trade meeting in Anaheim
As always – the SCAA annual conference is an excellent opportunity to get back in touch with friends and allies and to get “up to speed” on all that is new in the specialty coffee industry and in the wonderful world of Fair Trade. This year in particular – we were able to get a clear overview of Fair Trade landscape.
During our own Fair Trade "Reunion SCAA Meeting" we had the chance to sit with our most closely aligned Fair Trade importers and many of our common producer partners in an attempt to "get to know each other a little better as colleagues and Fair Trade allies"... and in order to collectively "reflect upon the current path that Fair Trade as we know it has taken”.
Some 30 representatives from importing, roasting and producing organizations gathered at the spacious McCormicks’ Grille for some very lively discussion and dinner. Following an initial round of introductions, we heard about many of our partners challenges and common concerns as well as proposals about how we, as “Fair Traders” can strengthen our operations and impact.
It was encouraging to see the open and collaborative spirit and we look forward to following up with our long list of “next steps” as together we create a network of deep and lasting relationships!
