SCAA 2009
Though we can hardly believe it's been a year since the busy excitement of the last SCAA coffee convergence, we're already in the throws of the hustle and bustle that comes with participating in an event like this!
The Specialty Coffee Event 2009
Once again, it looks like Cooperative Coffees staff and roasters will participate en force in the annual SCAA Conference (Specialty Coffee Association of America), in which members of the world’s largest coffee trade association gather to learn about the latest news, trends, and happenings in the world of gourmet coffee. "For the 21st time the SCAA will gather the world’s coffee professionals at what is the single greatest opportunity for leaders in the specialty coffee industry to meet, grapple with critical issues, explore the most current innovations in thinking and products and to make business, philosophical and personal connections. It is truly “The Event” in the coffee industry."
This year’s conference will be held in Atlanta, GA -- a "stone's throw" (ok, a LONG throw) from Coop Coffees headquarters in Americus. Like last year, we'll be hosting our own little nook-and-cranny booth amidst the thousands of coffee connoisseurs, industry insiders, importers, roasters, cafe owners and anyone else with a claim to specialty coffee! Glitz and glamor aside, this event provides a wonderful opportunity to meet and greet our allies and industry counterparts as well as catch up with some of our producer partners who participate in the event as well.
Seeing as this year marks the 10th Anniversary of Cooperative Coffees, we have also decided to take advantage of the convergence by organizing a day-long "retreat" with roasters, producers and Fair Trade allies in Americus following the SCAA conference. We will facilitate a series of roundtable discussions focused on current "hot" coffee topics to exchange points of view and to generate some good, ole healthy debate. After the business wraps up, we'll kick off our 10-year anniversary with La Fiesta, CoopCoffees style - a good dose of food, drink, and dance for all!
