Board of Directors

Our board is charged with overseeing the work of our staff and volunteer committees. We attempt to make most policy decisions based on a written proposals and recommendations from the committees. The board meets five times per year via teleconference and once per year at our annual general assembly of all members.

Tripp Pomeroy, Cafe Campesino - (Chair)

Tripp is a co-owner and the general manager of Café Campesino, which is based in Americus, GA, and Sweetwater Organic Coffee, which is located in Gainesville, FL.  He has more than 20 years of experience in business and new venture development and management, international trade, sales and marketing, and communications and has lived and worked in Mexico and Paraguay (where he met his wife) and worked on a variety of venture and projects in Argentina, Brazil, and Italy.  Tripp has a B.A. in Political Science from Tufts University and an M.A. in International Development from The American University School of International Service in Washington, D.C.  He is fluent in Spanish thanks to his wife Marysol, who is a personal trainer and yoga instructor.  They have two children - Maria Sol and Hugh - and live in Americus, Georgia.


Helen Voogd, Bean North - (Vice-Chair)
Helen is passionate about fair trade and coffee, and is co-owner of Bean North Coffee Roasting Co. Ltd. with Michael King, another fair trader. Conducting business in a way that is more fair just makes sense. Helen enjoys traveling to the coffee lands and meeting the coffee farmers and their families. Living in northern Canada, winter is definitely a season to her liking. Helen enjoys spending time with her other half Michael and their son Sasha.

  Mike Moon, Just Coffee - (Vice-Chair)

Chris Treter, Higher Grounds - (Secretary)

Mr. Treter is the co-founder and co- president of Higher Grounds Trading Co, Michigan's 100% fair trade and organic coffee roasting company. Higher Grounds Trading Co. has their Coffee Bar and Roastery in Traverse City, Michigan and Chris regular leads tours to coffee growing regions as part of their Fair Trade Tours. He is also founder of On the Ground - a not for profit organization dedicated to bringing fresh water, education, and health care to those without. Chris - along with all the staff at Higher Grounds is dedicated to sourcing the highest quality beans grown by the most progressive social change agents in the world.  Chris spends his winters traveling to coffee lands and his summers on the beaches of Northern Michigan. He also enjoy a good run through the woods or a bike ride toward the horizon.

In his own words, Glenn Lathrop reveals a few little-known facts about his background: "I grew up on a dairy farm, started roasting coffee 4 years ago,  climbed the highest peak in the western hemisphere, Aconcagua at  22,800 feet, was an instructor for Outward Bound, guided white water from Alaska to the desert southwest, our kids are two Labrador retrievers named Sadie and Sami, I am lucky to be married to Kim Moriyama, I love back country skiing and mountain biking, I have a BS from Cornell University and I LOVE COFFEE!"  (well that last one is well known).

Larry Larson, Larry's Beans
Larry is the founder and CEO of Larry’s Beans in Raleigh, NC. He has 18 years of executive experience in brand creation, strategy, and business management.  He has 11 years of experience in sustainable entrepreneurship.  Larry has served on the Board of Directors to Cooperative Coffees from 1999-2007 and as Chairman from 2006-2007; he has re-joined this Board in 2011.  Additionally he has served as Board member to both the Fair Trade Resource Network and Co-op Sol.  He is currently a member of the Advisory Council to North Carolina Conversation Network. Larry has a B.S. in Economics from the University of Puget Sound and has attended graduate programs in Economics at Univ. of Tennessee-Knoxville and NC State Univ.
When Larry’s not running the company or developing his next ideas, he’s likely dancing the 2-step at a music festival or taking a road trip with Butter-Cream (his 1991 biodiesel Mercedes).

Mike Mays is co-founder and president of Heine Brothers’ Coffee, a coffee roaster and retailer in Louisville, Kentucky with 9 neighborhood cafes. Heine Brothers’ Coffee is proud to be a leader in the Louisville community in promoting organics, fair trade and sustainable business practices like recycling and composting. Prior to starting a coffee company, Mike practiced law with a firm in Louisville. He holds a B.S. in Finance and a Law Degree from Indiana University. Mike and his wife Elizabeth stay busy raising 4 young children . Mike serves on the Finance Committee of Cooperative Coffees.

Lee Wallace, Peace Coffee

Lee joined the Peace Coffee staff first as Interim Director. Then something clicked. A job where she was able to combine her determination to make the world more just and get folks to connect the local and the global, her love of travel and appreciation for good coffee. She was hooked!

In her hours away from Peace Coffee, she''s likely reading, gardening, engaged in a massive never-ending house project or playing ice hockey.
